There are two coexisting versions of YSL: YSL Classic and YSL.Net. You can design and save most YSL reports using either version. Throughout this document, YSL report means an Excel workbook that has the specific YSL structure defined in this user's guide. There is nearly full backward and forward design compatibility between the two methods of designing a YSL report. YSL Classic differs from YSL.Net in the back-end rendering (report generation) technology. In both YSL Classic and YSL.Net, the XLA introduces user-defined Excel functions, as well as auditing tools and builders, to facilitate the design of YSL reports. Adding this Excel add-in constitutes the YSL activation process. For more information, see “Activating YSL”.

If you create a YSL report with the YSL.Net xla file (using the YSL function Create New YSL Workbook), it can only be generated in a YSL.Net environment. For more information, see “To create a new YSL report: YSL.Net” However, you can modify and generate existing YSL Classic reports in either a YSL Classic or YSL.Net environment.
