Charges : Charges Overview

Charges Overview
A charge is an amount that a resident or tenant owes for a service or product. Charges can be positive or negative. Positive charges increase balances (the amount owed); negative charges decrease balances.
A receipt records revenue. When you receive payments, recording the receipts provides evidence of these financial transactions. Over time, recorded receipts provide a history of these important transactions.
You enter the charges in groups called batches. You can enter charges in either summary batches or detail batches. The two batch types are essentially different ways of entering and viewing the same information, and a charge entered in a screen for one batch type can be edited in the screen for the other. It is generally easier to enter charges in a summary batch, but you have more flexibility with a detail batch. This chapter includes sections for summary-batch procedures, detail-batch procedures, and procedures shared by both batch types.
